CNC LASER CUTTING SERVICES

We pride ourselves as being one of the first companies in the UK to invest in laser cutting technology almost 30 years ago. We purchased one of Amada’s first LCE-645 CNC laser cutting machine in 1994. To this day we are always looking to technology to give us and our skilled workforce the edge over our competitors.

We currently have four laser cutting machines, split into two categories. Two are fibre flying optic laser cutting machines with automatic sheet loading / unloading. Two are CO2 laser cutting machines. They all have nitrogen and oxygen assist gasses. Approximately 80-90% of the blanks cut at G&C are laser cut. Customers no longer want punched blanks, with the possibility of burrs.

Fibre flying optic laser cutting, has radicalised the cost of laser-cutting. Coupled with nitrogen, gives our customers blanks cut at a fraction of the time, with a scale-free, burr-free finish. An added benefit of laser cutting with nitrogen comes when the parts are to be painted. A scale-free edge is essential if you expect the paint to adhere to the edge of the cut. A common problem with oxygen laser cutting.

An example of the speeds are below:
1mm Mild Steel – Cut at up to 42 meters a minute.
2mm Mild Steel – Cut at up to 17 meters a minute.
3mm Mild Steel – Cut at up to 8 meters a minute

An example of the material range below :
0.5mm – 8mm Aluminium.
0.5mm – 3mm Coated Mild Steel.
0.5mm – 10mm Mild Steel.
0.5mm – 6mm Stainless Steel.

The two CO2 laser cutting machines are used to cut thicker materials and small quantities. This complements the fibre technology.
