Product Development & Design

Product development & design is the initial stage where the product comes to life. It is therefore critical to understand the following requirements :

1. What does the customer require?
2. What issues have they had and what are their expectations?
3. What time restraints are there? Design can be a costly and slow process.
4. Ensure all details are correct to minimise delays.
5. Make 3D models available for customers to review and approve.
6. Openly discuss possible design changes that will improve the product or save cost.
7. Produce drawings, technical details, BOM’s, jigs and fixtures to aid production.

We have 4 seats of Solidworks, available to our experienced design engineers, maintained to the latest version. This is used to design and manufacture customer parts. Be it to sketches, drawings, 3D imports or samples. Giving us the ability to produce finished assemblies, exploded assembly instructions, etc.. 3D enables us to design parts cheaper, faster and to a higher tolerance with improved visibility of both interferences and representation. We are then able to use specialist software to integrate the 3D parts into our cutting and forming facility. All the component features, material types, material thicknesses, bend sizes, internal bend radius, bend angles and the shape of the parts are all transposed to production.

 

Component Nesting & Utilisation.

We have 3 seats of Amada CAM software, with part nesting. Enabling us to convert the 3D components into code, for our CNC machines to read.

The nesting software allows us to group parts from different jobs, of the same material type and thickness. These can then be nested on to sheets of material. Enabling us to maximise sheet utilisation. Sometimes up to 92%, depending on the size and shape of the parts. This utilisation enables us to reduce material scrap and pass the savings onto our customers.
